Fitness-Music

Music has been used to help motivate mankind for many millennia.  Even today, we will see in some tribal cultures the use of music when preparing for battle.  For many men, the use of thundering music with a dance sets the tone for the warrior.  Chants are part of it.  Today, even women are now using music for their personal warrior self.

I will use music from external sources to bring about an intensity when I train.  The theme from Rocky, Gonna Fly Now, being one.  When I was in the Marines we would use signing cadence when marching or running.  That music we all did was also another form of motivation for training.

Music from external sources are great and should be used to help keep us going.  Yet, we can produce the same music or even our own from deep within us.  Many times we may not have access to a music player and in reality, we don’t need one.  It’s simply accessing our memories and unleashing those music files that will help motivated to keep moving forward.

Here are three tips to help you bring forth those internal music files and play them in your head…

  • Make a list of the songs that truly motivates you.  If you need to, play them in an external device and anchor them into your subconscious mind with a certain key word.
  • When you bring forth each song, imagine the qualities of it that makes you want to move.  Expand on it and even add a visual image.  The image will be an additional anchor as well.  And even brighten that image when you increase the sound of the music.  You can control the volume and brightness internally.
  • Anchor in your training session with your internal music files.  Even when you are outdoors, you should have the same anchor to the files and then use the specific key word you will need to access a particular song.

Even when you’re sitting at your desk, by bringing forth a certain song, you will increase your motivation to get moving.  At that point, you will have also accessed the same responses that warriors of the past did.  Now, be a music and fitness warrior to get truly fit.
