The Power of Determination to Succeed!

“It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.” ― Leonardo da Vinci

Recently I met a very nice young man.  His name is Mark Weiler and he told me something about himself.  Back in 2007 he was involved in two automobile accidents.  He ended up in the hospital and the doctors at the time told him and his family that he was probably lucky to be alive.  More drastic for Mark was that he was told he’s never walk or even talk again due to massive neurological damage.

You see, when I met Mark, he was walking with the use of a cane.  I was curious and decided to talk to him.  I love stories of those I come across and his is no different.  After introducing myself, we talked.  He’s still working on that part as well.  Everyday he would read a book out loud in order to help improve his speaking ability.  And everyday he would walk, counting the amount of houses he walked past.  He would challenge himself to go just one more house each day.

Mark explained to me that he had the determination to fully walk and fully talk.  His goal is to one day become a motivational speaker and tell others that they can do the same thing through sheer determination.  I believe that he will one day be on stage and inspire audiences around the world.  I know that he has done that for me.

Determination to succeed takes guts and courage.  Not everyone will have that attitude.   Yet, it takes it for just about any endeavor where many have not gone before.  The top 1% in society has the determination to succeed.  Mark has been determined for 6 years to make it.  I wonder how many would have given up.  Heck, I wonder how many would have listened to their doctor and simply not started.  Not Mark.

“The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack in will.” ― Vince Lombardi Jr.

What is it that you dream about doing? If you want it, then go after it. Be determined to get it. If you fall down, get back up and keep moving forward. You only truly fail when you stop going after your dream. Just do it and keep doing it until you get it.
