“Any thought that is passed on to the subconscious often enough and convincingly enough is finally accepted.” ~Robert Collier
“Whatever we plant in our subconscious mind and nourish with repetition and emotion will one day become a reality.” ~Earl Nightingale
There’s been an ongoing debate about which is more powerful in terms of making changes, the conscious or subconscious mind. For years I’ve focused strictly on the subconscious mind as the source of completely making necessary changes for success. In the realm of hypnosis, it’s always been about the subconscious mind as well. While for the most part this may be true, I believe that the conscious mind is also an important ingredient.
Communication to the subconscious mind takes place through the conscious part of the mind. This is especially true in self-hypnosis when the conscious mind is completely engaged in accessing the subconscious mind. Both work as a team of a sorts to help produce changes in habits, attitude, success actions and so forth.
Most of your actions and behavior is a result of subconscious control since it is estimated that it’s 88% of your mental power. The conscious mind is approximately 12%. Between the conscious and subconscious mind is the critical factor.
As long as we disengage the critical factor, the conscious mind works wonderfully with the subconscious mind. It’s not about making affirmations or using willpower either. Neither is effective in influencing the subconscious mind. Both are strictly a conscious mechanism. Only through a relaxed state of consciousness do we have an open door between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. That is one of the reasons hypnosis is so effective.
Deep emotions also gain access to the subconscious mind. Except when there is no conscious control at that point, anything can get into it and have an affect – positive or negative. We see this in politics, religion and even sports. Cults are excellent at opening up the subconscious mind and installing whatever they want to in order to gain followers. They may come across as positive at the beginning and then once they have you hooked, they will start to control you in ways you would never have thought possible.
You want a strong critical factor in order not to be controlled by forces like a cult. Still, you also want to access your subconscious mind in order to make changes that will help you become more successful in whatever endeavor you engage in. If its losing unhealthy weight and you’ve always had trouble, then the conscious-subconscious connection can help you to lose it by changing your actions and behavior.
Tips on helping you use the conscious-subconscious connection effectively:
- Relax when doing any type of affirmation and only after a hypnosis session. Affirmations are strictly a reinforcement process.
- Write down the changes that you seek as if they already have occurred.
- Teach others what you seek to change in yourself. You see, the subconscious mind will be forced to change its beliefs due to seeking compatibility in what you tell others.
- Take immediate action on what you want changes in. Whenever I work with clients, I will do both a hypnosis and coaching session. The coaching session is the action part of it. Each of my clients have to practice via homework assignments.
Changes can happen and you have to be willing to let it happen. When you do that and allow access to your subconscious mind, then it will happen. Whether you learn how to do it or having a qualified expert help you, that is ultimately up to you. Just realize that you have to want it. Your actions that you are doing now let’s me know what is happening at the subconscious level.
Now, get out and start using the conscious-subconscious connection to make subconscious changes for success.
